648909_9122271_lzOvercast with thick skies this early Tuesday on California’s north coast — we’re expecting rain all this week, starting this morning, supposedly, with maybe up to half-an-inch of precipitation.
And along with the rain, some fairly-strong winds, too, with all indications a goodly-sized weather system coming upon us.
So be it.

Bad sense of disaster, but apt departing words — new flight recorder data from the crash of Air France Flight 447 in 2009 reveals the two experienced pilots were asleep, leaving a rookie at the controls. The Airbus 330 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 people on-board.
Last words recorded: “Fuck, we’re dead!”

Not nice, but a most-excellent retort to how humanity will be able to get a grip on our planet’s climate — an environment which is changing fast.

And warming quickly, too. Via Climate Central:

Like August before it, September 2014 was the warmest September on record, according to newly updated NASA data.
The warm month makes it even more likely that 2014 will become the warmest year on record.

Gavin Schmidt, the NASA GISS director, has cautioned against trying to find larger-scale meaning in the exact records of specific months, as the difference between first and second place can be very small and natural variability plays a large role from month-to-month and year-to-year.
Instead, he told Climate Central last month, the important trend to watch is the overall long-term picture of warming, which the recent “run of warm months” feeds into.

Yes, the overall view — the long run.
The war boys know it already. The Pentagon has again put climate change up there amongst the threats against everything. Yesterday, the military hub took any step forward in the fight against climate change. From the Guardian:

The Pentagon’s strategic planners have for years viewed climate change as a “threat multiplier”– worsening old conflicts and potentially provoking new clashes over migration and shortages of food and water in the Middle East, Africa and Asia, and opening up new military challenges in a melting Arctic.
But with Monday’s report, climate change moved from potential threat to an immediate factor in a wide range of operational and budgeting decisions.
“It makes it a reality that climate change indeed is a risk today, and we need to plan, programme and budget for it now and into the future,” said Sherri Goodman, chief executive of the military advisory board, a group of former generals and other high-ranking officers that studies US national security.

Even with all that, the big torn in the side of survival are assholes.
Similar to dipwad/asshole Paul Ryan last night, during a political debate in Wisconsin when asked if humans are influencing  climate change: “I don’t know the answer to that question. I don’t think science does, either.”

Idiots! And we wonder at our last words.
